At BMAT we are passionate about music and technology. But more than anything we love it when the two come together.
We have known for some time that computers are good at various tasks such as playing chess or storing data while we humans still have trouble selecting a playlist for an all-night party in less than an hour and half from our 100 giga hard drive of songs. Listening to upbeat music on our way to work has been impossible without pressing skip twice every second on our MP3 players. Searching for unknown music to enhance our existing collection has been as difficult as trying to guess under which genre we can find our favorite artists in an on-line store. So we decided that computers should start simplifying these tasks.
BMAT has created a search engine that organizes all the music in the world, which is able to listen, understand and interpret music like humans do, providing services that were previously unthinkable. It is now possible to search for music by mood (happy, melancholic...) or activity (party, quiet dinner, exercise...). It's a virtual partner that can recommend new music, concerts by unheard-of bands or even introduce new friends with similar tastes. The search engine provides new and more efficient agents for browsing and finding music.

BMAT is continually developing new software products which aim to redraw the landscape of music interaction with new and fascinating functionality.
Headquartered in Barcelona, BMAT was founded in the beginning of 2006 as a commercial spin-off company of the Music Technology Group (MTG). MTG is a division of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and is the world's largest research group in music & audio. BMAT operates under an exclusive license for MTG's current and future technologies.
